How do you feel about pixel advertising?
Ever since Alex Tew made history, and over a million dollars, with his Million Dollar Homepage, it seems like the concept is springing up everywhere. There are even specialty pixel sites, such as this one, for only canine-related sites. Was this a one-time wonder, or can this really work?
It surely seems like a cheap enough way to advertise, as with this page, whose owner promises to keep your ad up for 5 years. It looks nice and clean when it isn't filled up. But the question is, once the page becomes full, as it is on the bottom half of this page, will anyone even notice your ad?
The other thing I've noticed is that it is very difficult, if not impossible, to tell what country the ad page is based in. Whether this makes a difference as far as who views it, I don't know, but I would want to be sure that my click-throughs are coming from the USA, because the cost of shipping outside the country would make my product too expensive.
At least one page offers not to charge you until you've had 200 click-throughs. The odd thing here is that the owner doesn't give you a choice as to where you want your ad placed. Since he starts from the bottom and works up, It seems like it would probably be better to wait and be one of the last buyers.
I am curious enough though to try it. When I get my website up and running, I'll do some more research on these sites, and report back on what kind of response I get from advertising on one of them.

I thought that the Million-dollar Homepage was a brilliant idea, it's a great concept and he is such a great guy that you want to support him.
I think there are now some software packages where copycat sites can administer the graphic and the links via a back-end, but in terms of a good idea whose time has come, I think that Alex was on the tippy top, now we get to see how others have started to implement that idea that "less is more."
