I hope everyone had a good week. Did you all watch President Bush's State of the Union address?
Even here in Mexico, it was televised live, so I was able to watch it. After all the hoopla about insurance leading up to the speech, I expected to hear a little more than what was said about the state of our health care. I was waiting to hear if there was going to be some kind of proposal to make health insurance more affordable for the self-employed and the small business owner, but I didn't hear anything. The NFIB apparently heard enough to make them happy, though.
What do you think is going to become of health care as we know it now? Will we be moving to HSA´s, with their high deductibles? Do most people even understand what an HSA is? And will the move to HSA's just result in more people being uninsured?
The state of Montana has taken a step towards ensuring that small businesses and their employees have access to affordable health care. I think this is a great example of how the government can assist people without taking too much control, even though at the moment there is only one participating insurance company. It would be nice to see more choices available, but at least Montana is doing something.
I, for one, will be watching Montana's example to see how it works out. Maybe someone in our federal government should be doing the same.
