I never knew I had so many friends! My phone hasn't stopped ringing since I applied for my occupational licenses last week.
If the calls I'm receiving are an accurate indication, the three things most new businesses need or want right away are a credit card machine (check), a security system (check), and an accountant (ummm, I'm working on it). Maybe we also need a call screener.
Getting the licenses was easy enough, same for the sales tax ID number. I saved $5 on the sales tax number by getting it online. Both of the occupational licenses would have been reduced to half price if I applied after April 1, but I need to occupy the space on April 1, so I didn't get to take advantage of that savings. And I had to get those in person. I'm so spoiled, being able to do so many things online.
Speaking of obtrusive messages, I've noticed that the number of "phishing" emails I occasionally receive has been way up in the last two weeks, for some reason. I'm getting requests to verify financial information at email addresses that I never even used to register any financial information.
I know that none of you needs to be reminded, but never respond to a link in an email requesting that you verify any kind of information. Even if you believe the email is legitimate, type the address you normally use (not the one supplied in the email) for that institution into your browser and check for messages or unusual activity.
Have a great weekend. Don't get fooled tomorrow!
