Thanks, but take my money, please...

Those web programmers sure are an honest bunch.  Either that or my job is just too small for them to want to bother with it.  This is what I heard all day yesterday.

  • "If you got this far with your website, I'm sure you can configure the store."
  • "You've done a good job here, it doesn't look like you need my help."
  • "You shouldn't pay someone for this, you can do it."
  • "You sound smart enough, just use the help files that came with it.  That's what a programmer would have to do anyway, all stores are different."
  • "It's very similar to HTML."
  • "I don't want to charge you for something you can easily do yourself."

They were very helpful, giving me some hints on how to tweak other areas of my site a little bit, and telling me where to look for the file I'm trying to alter.  But come on, guys, I wouldn't be calling for help if I didn't need it.

So, now I've left a message at PC For Seniors.  I'm not quite a senior yet, but if they can teach me what I want to know, I'll be happy to act like one.

Though in the meantime, I've been fiddling around with the website files, and I think I found what I was looking for.  I copied the file to MSWORD in case I royally mess it up and just want to put it back the way it was, but maybe those guys were right.  I might be able to do this.

Just in case though, I'm waiting for that phone call to find out how much a few hours of tutoring will cost.  It'll be worth it, whatever the cost.

Cathi, this is the first time I've visited your blog...welcome aboard (actually, I think you've been aboard longer than I have at landingthedeal.com here on KMM).

I can assist with pointing you in some good directions as far as web and logo stuff goes, if you'd like. One of the companies I own is a local home window tinting company (I'm a partner...I don't actually do the tinting). Take a look at the website which is www.indoorshade.com and see if you like the site. If you do, you could have something similar for around $500. It's an awesome service that I just happened to stumble on to...I do all my sites through them now. Anyway, hope that helps. Good luck! Sounds like a fun business you've started.

Hi Cathi,

We run a web development company too! There are * lots * of resources, I'm sure you can find a small web design company nearby who can walk you through that process for a budget in your range.

The best thing is to get all your content together (usually 5-7 pages) of Home, About, Products/Services, and Testimonials/Clients, as well as a list of sites that you like design-wise, and take that to a web designer.
