Is starting your own business a good idea when you're still in your twenties, young and inexperienced?
In Sunday's Wall Street Journal, kelly Spors says this:
"Starting a business at any age takes nerve. Unless you're thick-skinned, motivated and willing to take major financial risks, you're probably better off working for someone else. But building a business as a twentysomething has its own special challenges."
And, as Spors points out, it also has some definite advantages. You have lots of time to recoup your losses if things go south, and you're able to to take on more risk because you probably don't have as many financial obligations as you will later on.
Though the article is directed at young entrepreneurs, the tips that are given for overcoming obstacles make plenty of sense to me, and provide good advice to follow at any age.
The fact of starting a business as a young person has its advantages and disadvantages at the same time. The young people are very ambitious, self-confident but they have a lack of experience that the oldest managers have a lot. But the young businessman learn fast!
