If you are just getting started in a business venture, one of the decisions you must make is how you will accept credit cards.
I know that when I was looking for a merchant services provider, it was very difficult to find unbiased information on the internet. Most sites offering to assist visitors through the maze of providers actually had their own best interest at heart, looking to sell you the service provided by themselves.
That is why I was surprised to find an actual free, no-membership-required, unbiased site reviewing the different types of merchant accounts. And they don't sell anything!
The site, MerchantAccountServices.org, offers a web-based calculator to compare fees, articles on different aspects of accepting credit cards, a blog, a forum, and even a very comprehensive list of e-commerce software.
Their Mission Statement says it all:
To provide merchants with the tools they need to make informed decisions when acquiring merchant services. This information will always be free and always in the best interest of the merchant.
If you are in the process of making these decisions, I recommend taking a look at this site. Even if you already have a merchant account, it's worth a visit, as there are articles to help you get the most out of it, such as a guide to avoiding chargebacks and understanding payer authentication.
