We posted some stories about how a few well known companies came up with their business name earlier today. It's amazing how random most of them were, and almost none of them were based on expensive marketing research.
I just ran across another business that had a business name that was created fairly randomly: Kodak!
George Eastman’s successful slogan (“You push the button, we do the rest”) and product name (Kodak) were created without market research. Eastman always liked the letter ‘K’ because “it seems a strong, incisive sort of letter” – so he tried a few combinations of letters and came up with ‘Kodak’.
So there you go! If that's not inspiration enough for you, I don't know what is! You don't need a bunch of marketing experts to come up with a name for your new business, or your slogan for that matter. Trust your instinct, rely on family and friends for feedback, and get going.
