"The distance is nothing; it is only
the first step that is difficult."
Marie de Vichy-Chamrond,
the Marquise du Deffand
(1697 - 1780)
French woman of letters
I got that quote in my e-mail Inbox a few days ago from justsell.com, a great sales and business newsletter.
Boy, does that apply to starting a new business!
The first step is always the hardest. The scariest. The riskiest. The one step that has the most to lose.
Anyone that's started a business can probably remember the time when they made that final decision to go into business and be an entrepreneur. They all had the "moment" when they knew that now was the time, no matter how difficult the first step.
Mine? That's an interesting story...it happened after I was involved in a car accident driving back from another boring marketing meeting in Los Angeles with a big, boring corporation.
I was in an accident where, truth be told, I had no business surviving. I remember thinking the next day, "I almost died driving back from a job I hate." You know what happened next...less than a month later, I had left that job to work at a business that I had started on my own on the side.
The first step is always the hardest. But don't be scared...its an incredible ride, and well worth the risk and the hard work.
